| Military Aviation Art Heinkel's He 178 takes off and flies successfully on 27 August 1939. The first flyable jet aircraft. It never went into production. But it did lead to the Me-262, and a variety of other Luftwaffe jet aircraft. Arguably, the father of modern aircraft.
