Decisive Moment Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the American Volunteer Group. In 1942, the Japanese mounted a major offensive to drive the American, British, and Chinese Nationalist troops out of China and into Burma. A vital choke point in the advance was the Salween Gorge, where the Japs were forced to cross on a pontoon bridge. The Flying Tigers of the AVG destroyed the bridge, destroyed the road, and saved the Allies from total defeat. |
