The
Hesse-Cassel Corps of Field Jaegers, 1776-1783
The Hessian Jaeger Corps hired by the British to
fight during the American War for Independence was among the finest light
troops employed during the conflict. Armed with short rifles and
dressed in green they were every bit the equals of the Patriots with their
long rifles. Having both mounted and foot components they fought in
nearly every campaign from 1776-1782 and were rarely bested on the field
of battle. Don Troiani shows a Jaeger patrol about 1778 after the
