Close Call Early 1942, and an Army Air Corps B-17E of the 19th Bomb Group is on a reconnaissance mission near Bougainville, a garden spot of intense interest in the southwest Pacific.  Finding themselves in heavy cloud cover, they descended below the cloud cover only to find themselves directly over a Japanese destroyer.  The destroyer took offense, but their aim was faulty, and the Fortress lived to fly another day.
